I have a relationship with Christ because He has kept it alive. I find great joy in that fact. I will tell you a secret: I pray because He put me in places where I had no choice but to pray. I trust Him because He saw to it there was no other option. I have gone to bed depressed and arose in the morning full of hope, because His mercies are new every morning. It is all about Him. I like the old man who, after recounting everything Jesus had done for him, was asked the following question, “But don’t we have to do something?” The man pondered and then proclaimed, “Yes, there is something we must do. We must sing hymns of praise!” How right he was. Jesus keeps me from stumbling; selfwill and determination do not. Jesus continually brings me into the glory of God, where a great light heals and brings joy. Really, there is not that much a believer has to do besides maintaining focus on Him, for He does the work.
Jesus was the most transparent man ever to live; to look at Him was to look at the Father. One day the disciples, looking at the window named Jesus, said, “Show us the Father!” A voice came from beyond the window, from the One who lived through Jesus, saying, “Have I been with you this long and still you do not know Me?” His goal for us is to become transparent so others might see the One who lives in us. He is in charge of this task, and all we need do is agree with it. “Jesus, it is my heart’s desire to have the revelation of Christ in me.”
