Many are disciplined to pray and read but have not developed the discipline of giving. In short, they act stingy, not giving as it has been given unto them. As believers, our new inner nature includes the desire to share and give, and this desire is further developed in our fellowship with God, where His gifts are recognized and we cannot help but give in response.
Too many believers privately keep records of how many lunches they have bought, how much free time they have given, how many miles they have driven, and how many phone calls they have made without compensation. They keep track of how much money they are out. This is bondage! Freely we receive, so we can freely give! Our life does not hinge on a lunch or a gallon of gasoline! The lack of freedom and joy in giving nullifies the witness of prayer and reading.
